Personal description

Hi everyone! My name is Deesha and I am a qualified secondary school teacher with a passion for teaching. I understand the unique challenges each individual may face, so I always ensure a safe and respectful learning environment for my students. I go beyond curriculum to foster independence, critical thinking, and growth. My goal is not only to help students see their potential, but to help them achieve and exceed it.

From 2017 to 2019 I worked at a primary school. Here I planned and taught exploratory and hands-on lessons in various settings. I started a weekly arts and crafts club for Year 5 and 6 students that connected art with diversity, multiculturalism, and mindfulness. At the same time, I was privately tutoring two high students aged 14 and 16, who were having difficulty focusing in their mathematics courses. We worked on the Year 9 and Year 10 mathematics curriculum. I prepared them for their final mathematics examinations and worked hard to keep them engaged by coming up with activities that related to their interests of art and music.

From 2016 to 2017 I worked as a high school teacher candidate. I successfully implemented student interests such as technology and art to ensure high levels of engagement in the mathematics courses. I was also able to effectively adjust my teaching style to match the rigorous pace of the French International Baccalaureate program. I delivered lessons with metacognitive aspects to allow student-directed development. At the same time I was working at a private school teaching high school mathematics. Here I independently created tests, assignments, exams, course outlines, and lesson plans in accordance to the curriculum. I found innovative and effective teaching methods tailored to student interests, needs, and learning styles. I developed positive relationships with students who were often distracted in class and was able to help them stay on track.
