I offer private tutoring hours for mathematics and physics for students of all ages. The speaking language until now was always german as I gave the lessons primarily in Munich. With all clients the tutoring was very successful. Furthermore often my employer had me jump in whenever another tutor could not successfully teach their clients. In general however, I prefer lessons to be given on a weekly basis (2 hours per week). That way the student can acquire a stronger understanding of the subjects.

In my opinion, the most important thing is that the tutor pays close attention to how much the student already knows and where their understanding is incomplete. It obviously helps a lot if the student already prepares the questions which they cannot answer themselves; still the tutor needs to get to know the student and their abilities through checking their knowledge. Only when the tutor knows exactly where the student lacks understanding, the tutor can try to bring the concepts closer. The most effective way of doing that is giving them the simplest examples which still require them to use the new concept. Then gradually the examples should get harder until the students can solve the problems on their own. After every problem solved the student should verbally explain how they solved it. It is however also important that the tutor is aware of the pragmatic part of tutoring, which is that the students get good grades on their exams. Meaning the students do not need to always understand every detail, just what they are required to do to solve the problem.

So there needs to be a certain balance between the two: understanding on the one hand and being able to quickly apply the right method to solve the problem on the other.

Lastly I want to say I really enjoy when the students who had troubles with mathematics and physics see, how it is actually possible to do well in the exam and loose their fear of the subjects. I offer tutoring in german, english and slovenian.
